In a warm and deeply emotional atmosphere, the film “Gaza’s Twins, Come Back to Me” was screened on 16 November 2025 at the Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam, as part of the IDFA 2025 festival.
Our colleague Salah Haw, representing Alef Multimedia, took part in the festival events, where he shared with the audience the long and challenging journey the team went through to film and produce the documentary under the harsh conditions of war in Gaza.
In a particularly moving moment, the film’s director Mohammed Al-Sawwaf joined via live video call from Gaza, sharing with the audience this unique human and artistic experience.
The film is produced by Alef Multimedia and the Witness – Al Jazeera program, in co-production with Een van de jongens.
The screening drew a remarkable audience, and at the end of the film the crowd rose to their feet and applauded for nearly a minute, in recognition of the profound human story that Palestinian director Mohammed Al-Sawwaf brings from the heart of Gaza.
The documentary follows the journey of a Palestinian mother over 16 months, after the war forced her to be separated from her premature twin babies shortly after their early birth. The twins move between shelters and tents under the care of their aunt Nesreen, while their mother can only watch them grow through video clips. After long attempts and agonizing days, she finally succeeds in being reunited with her children once again.
